Three Iran films to be screened in Switzerland

Three Iranian movies will be screened at the International Festival of Oriental Films in Geneva.

‘Malaria’ by Parviz Shahabi and ‘Daughter’ by Reza Mirkarimi are scheduled to be screened in the Feature Films section of the 12th edition of International Festival of Oriental Films in Geneva while 'Jaws' by Almas Ferdowsi will be screened in the Short Films section of the event.

‘Malaria’ is also participating in the competition section of the festival.

‘Malaria’ narrates the story of two youngsters who find temporary refuge with a music band in Tehran.

It is Shahbazi’s third cinematic work on Iranian youth, after his ‘Deep Breath’ as well as ‘Trapped’.

Some cast members of ‘Malaria’ include Saghar Qanaat, Saed Soheili, Azarakhsh Farahani and Azadeh Namdari.

The movie made its premier at the 34th Fajr Film Festival in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.

It was screened at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival in Italy which marked its international premier.

‘Daughter’ is about a family living in the southwestern Iranian port city of Abadan. The family’s younger daughter announces that she’s off to Tehran to say farewell to one of her best friends who is leaving Iran for good. Despite objections from her father, she boards a flight to Tehran. Her disobedience ignites a series of incidents that brings mayhem to the family.

The movie has won many national and international awards including the best film and the best actor award at the 38th Moscow International Film Festival.

The 12th edition of International Festival of Oriental Films in Geneva began on April 1, 2017 and will continue until April 9, 2017.
